If you are looking for a challenging alternative to big city practice, Levett Rockwood should be of special interest to you. The firm was formed in 1981 by four attorneys who left a large firm with two goals in mind -- to assemble a group of talented lawyers who could provide the high-quality service of a large firm combined with the personal attention and service of a smaller one, and to build a base of clients who would be interesting and fun to represent. Since then, we have achieved a mix of people and practice that unites the intellectual challenge of a large firm with the personal rewards of a smaller one.
Our PracticeThe firm's practice includes a broad range of commercial matters, encompassing business law, commercial litigation, health care, intellectual property/information technology, contests and promotions, commercial real estate, taxation and individual planning/estates and trusts. Our corporate clients include companies of diverse size and industry mix, such as private equity funds, computer software companies, multi-nationals, biotech start-ups, acute care hospitals, textile and construction equipment manufacturers, and equipment leasing companies. See Practice and Clients for more details. Our PeopleThe attorneys at Levett Rockwood are highly qualified lawyers with top credentials. Many of us have worked previously at New York, Connecticut or other national firms of 200+ lawyers. We bring the sophisticated nature of this background to a more cooperative and efficient work environment. With approximately two dozen lawyers and a very active practice, we encourage new attorneys to take on as much responsibility as they can handle. Because attorneys at all levels almost always work directly with the client, we seek to hire individuals with maturity and initiative, who combine strong legal skills with practical sense. Junior associates will have the opportunity to meet and work directly with clients, take depositions, attend hearings, negotiate and draft agreements, and quickly gain experience not easily obtained at many large firms. Compensation & Quality of LifeOur lawyers earn salaries competitive with major Connecticut law firms. We understand that people have families and interests outside of work, so we strive to achieve an acceptable balance between personal and professional life. We have built a successful and dynamic practice based on the strength of our people and compensate accordingly -- without the crushing time demands (or billable hour quotas) of many big city firms. We provide continuing feedback to our people and base salary increases upon each individual's performance. The firm also pays for bar review course expenses and the bar exam for new associates. Our LocationWestport, Connecticut is in the heart of Fairfield County -- a vibrant region with a solid base of corporate headquarters, beautiful beaches, an active cultural life and top-notch public schools, all within an hour's access of New York City.Contact UsWe have graduates from many top 10 law schools among our attorneys, and we actively encourage fellow alumni and law students to consider us as a career option. We have historically also hired laterals, mainly from New York or large Connecticut law firms, and anticipate continuing to do so.
